Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man; healthy, wealthy and wise! Benjamin Franklin

In December I entered a contest and won a large, expensive TV. It was too big for my apartment, and additionally it was a monstrosity of consumerism. I mean, I felt bad having this TV that was worth more than my first car.

So I finally got the TV shipped to my apartment, and sold it on Kijiji. I got a decent sum of money, which I put a large chunk in to my savings account, and put a chunk towards buying a more reasonable TV. This is quite a bit different from how I would have behaved a few years ago.

When I was drinking I probably would have started my windfall by blowing a small chunk on alcohol, and put a large chunk in my chequing account. After thinking and planning on what to do with the rest of the money, I’d notice there wasn’t as much left as I had hoped, and then ended up spending the rest on whatever.

While I’m far from fiscally perfect, Im proud of myself for working to find a TV that I like and wasn’t enormous and putting that large chunk of money into constructive savings. Im mainly paying down student loan debt, but its a heckuva lot better than paying down my booze habit and having nothing to show for it in 6 months.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed my bragging.
