Welcome to Stop Drinking Solutions.
You have the power to overcome your addiction to alcohol, or simply to curb your consumption drastically. It may feel hopeless, or like it will never work but many people have been sober for years. Yes, in certain recovery communities these “old-timers” (who are not always old, just with a lot of years of sobriety) have decades of time sober, yet they still are active at meetings and support groups.
Why does someone who has not had a drink of alcohol in 20+ years need to go to meetings?
That’s a very good question, and it’s not one that’s easily answered. One could hypothesize a number of complex scientific reasons for this, but the simplicity is what makes the treatment so amazing:
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”
It’s the number one cliche, but it’s often repeated because it’s true. When your only goal in sobriety is to STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL then it’s easy to see that many people will stick with whatever works. For some, it’s not about life hacking, or becoming perfect. It’s about finding something that works and hanging on tight.
Why might someone wish to quit drinking?
This is a question many people ask those who are sober, and the answers are as different as the people themselves. If you’ve ever been to a support meeting, then you’ll know that many different people try to stop drinking. Men and women of all ages, races and backgrounds struggle with alcohol addiction and the same types of people who decide it’s time to hit the gym on January 1st, are the type to swear off booze.
That being said, some people hit rock bottom with alcohol and make a decision between a life without alcohol and the painful death caused by alcohol consumption. You would be surprised how many normal looking people were on the verge of collapse before rescuing themselves from the grip of drinking!
You may also want to quit drinking because you think it’s a waste of time and money. Perhaps you want to set a good example for your children, or prove to your spouse that you can conquer your demons and beat an addiction! You don’t need to hit rock bottom to want to quit drinking, so please don’t think that the only reason to quit is after a DUI or other potentially harmful experience.
In this website you will find solutions, resources, and anecdotes about sobriety, quitting drinking, and clean living. They won’t be for everyone, as treatment varies from person to person, but I hope you will take the message seriously. If you think you have a drinking issue, now is the best time to confront it, and fix your life!
